„Heul doch! – Vom Heulen, Weinen, Plärren und Flennen“ written by Frauke Angel is a picture book combined with additional facts about tears and the reasons why people cry.
Frauke Angel, the author, and I collaborated closely. Upon reviewing her manuscript, I sketched initial drafts and character designs. I enjoyed illustrating the entire narrative using red and blue color schemes, symbolizing the warmth and coldness of our emotions. Subsequently, Frauke and the publisher team determined the textual content and visual elements. I proceeded to draft the entire book, incorporating text boxes and creating sketches for both the cover and double-page layouts.
At consistent intervals, I shared updates on my progress with Frauke and Tyrolia. This allowed us to address any issues and appreciate the book’s development. I utilized a combination of pen and paper, Procreate, and Adobe InDesign, creating collages with individual illustrations, which facilitated the layout of double pages.
The concluding illustrations were provided as individual high-resolution files and consolidated InDesign files that incorporated text boxes. This approach facilitated the graphic designer in seamlessly arranging the files for print readiness.
